The Instacart App team is focused on creating products that delight our customers by making grocery shopping inspiring and effortless for everyone and changing the way people feed themselves and their loved ones. Within IC App you’ll be involved in the highest impact and visibility projects such as our AI, merchandising and storefront initiatives that push and change the way people purchase groceries online. Your work will impact the full consumer shopping journey and elevate the experience users have on Instacart.

As a highly skilled specialist in visual craft, product excellence and style definition, you will be responsible for collaborating with and guiding the Instacart app design team towards a world class consumer product experience. You’ll use your craft to build engaging narratives and promote compelling frameworks across the cross functional organization.You will provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members, actively participate in design reviews, and contribute to the growth and development of the design team. You’ll be responsible for continuously advancing the visual design solutions, teaching other designers, building lasting patterns and expertly balancing visual hierarchy and user needs.

We’re seeking creative problem solvers that can bring definition to complex and ambiguous problems, then generate strategically broad options and lead us through to narrowing in on the right solution. You’ll use your full range of skills including business thinking, product strategy, strategic design, interaction design, and visual design to define and solve problems to create amazing experiences. You’ll partner with Research, Product, Data Science, Engineering, and Content Design to identify new opportunities, create and test directions, and deliver holistic solutions that are impactful, usable, and lovable.


  • 10+ years of experience as a product/UX designer in a relevant industry.
  • You love fast-paced environments.
  • In the past, you have either established or contributed to design systems and guidelines, including creating and documenting design components, style guides, and patterns for consistency.
  • You collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into well-designed solutions.
  • You are deeply curious and think of your role very broadly.
  • You elevate visual design craft by introducing innovative visual design techniques, exploring new styles, and pushing the boundaries of design aesthetics.
  • You utilize deep design expertise and excellent visual design skills to create visually appealing, intuitive, and user-centric designs.
  • You have a high quality bar, attention to detail and help teams and other designers deliver high quality, polished experiences.
  • You think deeply about business and product challenges.
  • You take ownership of design projects, deliver high-quality designs within given timelines, and effectively manage multiple design tasks.
  • You have experience being a thought leader across many cross-functional teams.
  • You are an excellent storyteller and communicator.
  • You demonstrate a growth mindset, actively seek feedback, and engage in continuous learning to improve design skills.


Instacart provides highly market-competitive compensation and benefits in each location where our employees work. This role is remote and the base pay range for a successful candidate is dependent on their permanent work location. Please review our Flex First remote work policy here.
