Responsibilities
GitHub’s engineering and product management teams operate in a highly distributed environment, embracing asynchronous communication. You will drive and track Key Results, gaining an understanding of success criteria and performance metrics. Your role will involve identifying data-informed, short-term investment opportunities, evaluating trade-offs, and prioritizing investments in collaboration with cross-functional partners for specific features.
You will engage with internal and external partners, including early-adopter customers and key stakeholders, to gather input and build support for the product/service vision, strategy, and roadmap for a feature. You’ll also develop the skills needed to define features and work with Design teams to integrate various design elements. Strong communication skills are essential for building relationships with colleagues across the globe. - Own the product vision for your area. Works across multiple feature areas (e.g., product, service) as directed. Defines and influences the long-term vision and strategy for the feature areas based on a deep understanding of customer needs, market and user research, the competitive landscape, and GitHub’s business goals and strategy.Leverages a deep understanding of the product architecture to design end-to-end scenarios.
- Analysis of Customer and Market Signals:Understands and starts to build experiences to solve unmet user needs.Performs market or user research in collaboration with the User Research team, conducts competitive analyses, and examines market and industry trends, as well as industry-specific requirements or regulations. Shares insights with cross-functional partners and ensures cross-team alignment
- Manage the roadmap. Make tactical prioritization decisions while helping the team think long-term. Build trust with stakeholders by maintaining an understandable, accurate roadmap.
- Collaborate across teams. Your success will require coordination across multiple teams and domains at GitHub. You will play a critical role creating alignment between your product focus area and the wider GitHub organization.
- Data driven decision making. Leveraging data and analytics to capture progress and key results toward team objectives. The ability to systematically gather information from a variety of sources, analyze information, identify implications of data, draw conclusions, generate alternatives and solutions, and evaluate the consequences of choosing each alternative using quality metrics and data.
- Measure success. Own the measures used to define success for your area. Success measures must be defined at the inception of a product and tracked throughout its lifecycle. Make measures visible to all stakeholders and interpret them into actionable conclusions
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field
- OR Bachelor’s Degree in related field AND 3+ years experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field
- OR equivalent experience
- Experience delivering product roadmap/status updates.
- Experience collaborating across organizational boundaries to deliver projects that involve complex technical problems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of developer tools and workflows developers use in order to translate tooling/workflow requirements into features on the product roadmap
- Experience in machine learning and/or AI
- Experience with and passion for building and shipping API platforms for developers, and developer tool administrators.
Compensation Range
The base salary range for this job is USD $112,800.00 – USD $299,300.00 /Yr.
These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual’s base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
