Overview

As the Digital Marketing Manager, you will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive digital marketing strategies that drive awareness, acquisition, and engagement across all digital channels supporting Hello Alice’s mission to serve small businesses. This role involves leading marketing team members, managing vendor relationships, and executing campaigns across email, social media, website/SEO, and emerging AI-powered answer engines.

You will act as both strategist and practitioner, developing data-driven marketing strategies while participating in creating campaigns, analyzing performance, to optimize results. This role requires strong project management capabilities to coordinate work across stakeholders, manage competing priorities, and operate within an agile workflow environment. You must be comfortable using AI tools to enhance productivity and efficiency, and adept at translating complex data into actionable insights and compelling narratives for executive leadership. Success in this role requires excellent communication skills, sound judgment in prioritization decisions, and the confidence to provide strategic counsel to senior leadership.

This role reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Planning & Execution: Develop and execute comprehensive digital marketing strategies across all channels. Translate business objectives into actionable marketing plans with clear execution strategies and measurable outcomes.
  • Agile Workflow Management: Manage marketing workflow using agile methodologies, including work period planning, daily standups, and retrospectives. Coordinate work across multiple stakeholders and program managers, managing competing priorities and requests.
  • Hands-On Leadership: Balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution. Willing to personally create campaigns, write copy, and analyze data alongside team management responsibilities.
  • Team Management: Directly manage marketing team members and contractor relationships, providing clear direction, feedback, and professional development.
  • Prioritization & Decisioning: Prioritize and deprioritize work effectively. Making clear decisions about what gets shifted when urgent priorities arise. Maintain capacity buffers for ad-hoc requests protecting core planned work.
  • Project Management Systems: Maintain project management systems (e.g., Jira) to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficient workflow. Maintain clear request intake processes to maintain organized workflow management.
  • Email Marketing: Manage end-to-end email strategy including campaign creation, automation flows, segmentation, A/B testing, and performance optimization.
  • Social Media Management: Develop and execute social media strategy across platforms, balancing organic content with paid promotion to reach small business audiences.
  • Website & SEO: Oversee website content strategy, site map management, technical SEO, and ensure content discoverability through both traditional search engines and AI platforms.
  • Answer Engine Optimization: Implement strategies to ensure Hello Alice appears in AI-generated responses across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and similar platforms.
  • Data Analytics & Insights: Monitor and analyze marketing metrics on a daily/weekly basis across all channels. Develop dashboards and reports that clearly communicate performance, trends, and ROI to executive leadership.
  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships with marketing vendors and agencies, ensuring clear deliverables, performance tracking, and effective partnerships.
  • Executive Communication: Communicate effectively with executive leadership, providing regular updates on campaigns, performance, and resource needs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate across sales, product, programs, and other teams to align marketing efforts with business goals and ensure consistent messaging.
  • Process Optimization: Continuously evaluate and improve marketing processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Identify and remove blockers that hinder team productivity.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement quality control processes to ensure all deliverables meet brand standards and maintain consistency across channels.
  • Marketing Technology Management: Oversee marketing technology stack, ensuring tools are properly integrated, utilized effectively, and delivering ROI.

Required Skills and Experiences:

  • Proven Experience: 5+ years of experience in digital marketing, with demonstrated success across multiple channels (email, social, SEO, paid media).
  • Management Experience: 2-3 years of people management or player-coach leadership experience.
  • Agile Methodology Expertise: Proven track record working in agile/scrum environments—this is almost non-negotiable. Experience facilitating agile workflows including sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives.
  • Project Management Skills: Proficiency with project management tools (Jira strongly preferred) and agile workflow management. Strong prioritization skills—able to decisively shift priorities when urgent needs arise.
  • Technical Proficiency – Marketing Platforms: Advanced proficiency with modern email service providers (Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Mailchimp, ConvertKit, Campaign Monitor, or similar) including journey building, automation workflows, and segmentation capabilities.
  • Technical Proficiency – Analytics: Strong capabilities with analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, Segment, or similar) including event tracking, conversion analysis, and custom reporting. Comfortable working with data daily/weekly to inform decisions.
  • Technical Proficiency – AI Tools: Demonstrated experience using AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Jasper, or similar) to enhance marketing productivity and output quality. AI-native marketer who actively uses AI tools to optimize workflows.
  • Technical Proficiency – Content Management: Experience with CMS platforms, SEO tools, and website management.
  • Technical Proficiency – Design Tools: Familiarity with graphic design tools and ability to provide creative direction.
  • Data Analytics Capabilities: Strong data analysis skills with ability to work with spreadsheets, dashboards, and analytics platforms to translate data into compelling narratives and actionable insights for executive audiences. Understanding of marketing attribution, conversion optimization, and customer journey mapping.
  • Strategic & Execution Balance: Strategic mindset balanced with practical execution capabilities—not just “big ideas” but clear plans for implementation and willingness to do individual contributor work, not just delegate.
  • Budget & Vendor Management: Experience managing budgets and vendor relationships effectively.
  • Leadership & Communication: Confident leadership presence with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to tailor messaging for different audiences (team, executives, external stakeholders) and advocate effectively for team priorities.
  • Executive Collaboration: Comfortable collaborating with C-level leadership and providing strategic counsel. Ability to balance team advocacy with organizational needs while maintaining positive relationships.
  • Adaptability: Nimble and able to move quickly—adapts readily to changing priorities and new information. Comfortable with iterative processes and adapting plans based on data and feedback.
  • Diverse Skill Set: Willingness to “wear many hats” given the reality of team size and capacity. Recognition that at this company size, people need skills beyond just their core expertise.
  • Lean Team Operations: Comfortable working effectively within lean team structures and understanding the operational realities of scaling organizations. Experience operating successfully in agile environments.
  • Industry Experience: Background in B2B or fintech environments preferred. Genuine interest in empowering small businesses and entrepreneurs.
  • Passion for Entrepreneurship: Commitment to creating value through education, community support, and accessible resources. Understanding of small business challenges and opportunities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud specifically
  • Professional certifications in digital marketing, analytics, or project management
  • Experience with Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) strategies
  • Background in marketing automation platforms and journey building
  • Experience in fintech, SaaS, or entrepreneurship-focused organizations
  • Background in content strategy and storytelling for small business audiences
  • Understanding of marketing operations and technology stack optimization
  • Experience with customer data platforms (CDPs) or data management tools
