Overview
Future Builders is an online academy for software developers to build their skills and employability. We bridge the gap between finishing an introductory coding course and getting an entry-level developer job.
Users learn by working through projects in small teams of 4 using the Future Builders cloud IDE and videoconferencing tools.
Technical Tutors support the teams of learners through:
– Performing code review when the team submits a pull request at the end of each weekly work session.
– Giving feedback and guidance during the weekly Sprint Review & Planning videocall.
– Occasionally helping the team get ‘unstuck’ during their weekly work session by responding to questions via chat (when the team has been stuck on a problem for >30 minutes).
– Giving each team member constructive feedback at the end of a project.
A Technical Tutor is assigned to a particular team for the duration of a project (2-6 weeks) to provide continuity. A Trainer may support up to 4 teams simultaneously, depending on their availability.
The time commitment for a Technical Tutor (per team) is:
– 1 hour reviewing code on a Saturday or Sunday evening.
– A 1 hour videocall on a Monday or Tuesday evening.
– Availability to help by chat message if the team become blocked during their work session (9-5pm on a Saturday or Sunday).
