The Role
The Public Relations & Communications Manager is responsible for leading outbound company communications related to the Bitly brand. This role leads the PR planning calendar to gain earned media and proactively positions brand, product, and leadership stories to achieve coverage that inspires interest in our target audiences —introducing and inviting them to seek out Bitly and its products.
This role encompasses ongoing media outreach, brand campaign initiatives, product and feature launches, media activations, speaking engagements, and award submissions. You will play a pivotal role in our positioning and differentiating Bitly in the market. The goal is to develop and manage Bitly’s public relations and communications initiatives to drive brand exposure and awareness.
What You’ll Do
Media & Communications
  • Own, plan, and execute a comprehensive PR plan to enhance and secure Bitly’s positioning within the marketplace as the Connections Platform, collaborating with relevant stakeholders in the brand and content teams and/or in other relevant functions
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key press, outlets, and influencers/bloggers, and maintain Bitly’s media list to produce media coverage and pitch story ideas
  • Conceptualize, research, and execute PR outreach strategies, developing and pitching stories to garner repeat positive press attention for Bitly
  • Own and oversee various external communications by writing press releases, announcements, contributor news stories, and collaborate with the content team on feature stories
  • Keep leadership and cross-functional marketing teams informed of all PR activities, defining KPIs for success
  • Evaluate, recommend, and manage potential third-party PR agencies and/or contractors
  • Provide counsel to senior executives, brand, social media, and other functional teams crisis communications guidance and execution
  • Create breakthrough stories and moments that connect our brand to culture, driving cultural relevance and building brand interest

Awards & Events

  • Partner with events partners and internal brand team to create and execute event activations to promote Bitly’s brand and its products
  • Maintain a calendar of key events and identify new event and speaking opportunities for Bitly and senior leadership
  • Collaborate with brand and other internal teams on overall Awards efforts and priorities, while engaging in ongoing dialogues with key awards press
  • Support events and conferences with media activities, including speech/presentation writing

Who You Are

  • 5+ years of experience in journalism, communications, PR and/or media relations
  • A self-starter and entrepreneurial minded, with the ability to work independently and autonomously
  • Experience pitching proactive stories to technology and business outlets
  • Outstanding attention to detail, understanding of SaaS,, and ability to communicate complex topics effectively.
  • Passionate about excellence in writing and verbal communications
  • Thrives in a collaborative environment and is willing to roll up their sleeves to get the job done

Bonus Points

  • Early- to mid-stage startup experience
  • PR agency experience preferred
  • Pre-existing relationships with influencers, journalists, and outlets in the SaaS and digital marketing space are a huge plus

The annual cash compensation range for this position is below.  Final compensation will be determined based on experience and skills and may vary from the range listed.
Pay Range
$125,000$150,000 USD
