About the Role

We’re seeking a Principal Product Designer who can be a leader as well as a core contributor on our Revenue Products team. The ideal candidate has product design experience, a great eye for typography, a passion for user-centered design, and a desire to build beautiful, usable advertising experiences that delight our users. This role requires a balance of strong visual design work alongside an understanding of creating product design systems, along with an understanding of the digital advertising landscape.

What you will do:

  • As a co-pilot to the Design Director, you’re active in promoting the team’s agenda. May have some managerial responsibilities and oversight over some team members.
  • Lead design and design process across our Revenue Product group.
  • Produce wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and other design artifacts throughout a project’s process.
  • Advocate for and execute user-centered design
  • Collect and integrate, and advocate for usability studies, research, and user feedback
  • Mentor and onboard designers onto the team
  • Be an advocate for beautiful, usable, delightful advertising experiences.
  • Collaborate with engineers to implement and iterate on user interface design
  • Collaborate closely with PM, Design Directors, and Engineering on how to best intersect business and user goals
  • Connect, converse, and collaborate with teams and individuals across all of Vox Product to learn, tackle new initiatives, and meet unexpected challenges.
  • Be a strong representative of Vox Media Design and be active in the design community both internally and externally as well as being active at events, speaking engagements, writing blog posts, etc.

Qualifications:

  • An expert in product thinking and user-centered design, capable of executing as well as teaching and mentorship.
  • You’ve designed and shipped mobile and web products, with a portfolio that shows off your product and interaction work, with a clear understanding of the product design process.
  • Posses clear leadership ability and a strong command of the strategic underpinnings of design thinking.
  • An innate understanding of the advertising landscape and experience building beautiful, usable advertising and/or ad products.
  • You have experience working with user research and data to inform decisions.
  • You understand how to facilitate rapid iteration of products, and often present many solutions to a design problem to illustrate different approaches
  • Exceptional communication skills. Ability to present creative work strategically in front of small and large audiences.
  • A track record of creating compelling and successful case studies
  • Able to write and execute against a brief
  • Can work independently without supervision
  • Can lead project teams or take on highly complex individual work
  • Playing a consistent mentorship role across the design team
  • An advocate for Design Culture and for the Vox Media Design organization
  • Participates in team level leadership initiatives beyond project work
  • A trusted partner fostering exceptionally strong stakeholder relationships
  • Forges strong and collaborative relationships between cross-functional counterparts
  • You have an enthusiasm for Vox Media and a desire to contribute to our design culture
  • Enforcing and modeling the expected behaviors listed in our Code of Conduct and Ethics Guidelines
