We’re looking for a strategic and collaborative Creative Director with a strong storytelling background to guide and bring to life 1Password’s brand across a variety of audiences, channels and markets. You’ll play an important leadership role directing a talented team of designers, illustrators and creative types, and work cross-functionally with business partners across the company. You will collaborate with leaders in Design, Product, Marketing and People teams to drive the creation of strategic, compelling, design solutions across an expanding range of projects from visual, video to motion graphics. You’ll also manage creative talent in the team with a focus on inspiring teams to want to do their best work, continue developing new skills and thrive in a collaborative, busy environment.

What we’re looking for:

  • A portfolio of work that demonstrates your deep understanding of design knowledge, conceptual thinking, experimentation, and brand work
  • 10+ years of experience working in an advertising, design, or journalism environment
  • Preferred experience of managing and leading designers and creatives across a variety of disciplines: Design, Copy, UX, Illustration, and Motion
  • A passion for design, emotive storytelling and the creative process
  • Deep understanding and experience in establishing, marketing, growing, and evolving brands, from startups and nonprofits to large-scale global organizations
  • Experience with rebrands, brand extensions, visual guidelines and design systems Proven track record in developing, mentoring, and supporting designers building a highly engaged and empowered team
  • Ability to coordinate, direct, and provide creative direction to contractors, agencies, and in-house multi-disciplinary creatives
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex, sometimes abstract, concepts clearly and persuasively at the VP and C-Suite level
  • A highly collaborative, organized, and resourceful approach with cross-functional partners
  • A self-starter who proactively sets benchmarks, builds trust, and aligns expectations
  • Strong knowledge of video and design principles and best practices and a keen eye for typography and technical craft
  • An empathetic storyteller with exceptional creative writing skills

What you can expect:

  • Drive 1Password’s creative vision, style and expression and infuse this into strategy and agency proposal briefs  in collaboration with brand, social, and content marketing teams
  • Design and package strategic and creative direction into compelling stories that are both clear and actionable and support business outcomes
  • Build relationships with leaders and business partners across the company, effectively influence decision making and prioritization, and be an advocate of our culture and values
  • Build consensus wherever possible among all areas of the company; leverage your ability to function as a bridge across disciplines, such as Design, Product, Engineering, and Marketing
  • Develop a team culture where curious, creative types can grow, feel empowered to own their career and do great work
  • Drive the creative development process as a key player in distilling out the ‘big idea; participate, lead and assist in leading internal creative brainstorms
  • Aid in determining creative direction on projects by fueling the creative process with insightful tactical guidance
  • Attend internal briefings and discovery sessions on new projects when requested
  • Stay current on marketing media and content trends (social, experiential, digital, design etc)
  • Lead an internal creative agency of writers, producers, philosophers, and thinkers
