Yelp’s mission is to connect people with great local businesses. As a trusted source of information on local business, millions of people turn to Yelp every day to make decisions about where to spend their money — from where to eat, shop or stay, to which healthcare, home or local service provider to use, and beyond.

Yelp is seeking a communications manager to drive the strategy and execution of Yelp’s product, technical and data communications program. As a core member of our growing communications team, you will be responsible for communicating Yelp’s consumer product, engineering and data-driven storylines to press covering tech, business and the economy, by identifying and leveraging product news, as well as industry and economic trends.

We are looking for a communications pro with a track record of telling data-driven and product stories and strong relationships with relevant reporters; a team player who can navigate initiatives cross-functionally; and an exceptional communicator with experience running successful proactive PR initiatives.

This is a full time role based in the United States.

Where you come in:

  • You will develop and communicate Yelp’s data-driven, product and technical focused narratives, and own the strategy and execution of related PR programs.
  • You will work with internal and external partners to identify opportunities that demonstrate the value of Yelp data through a regular cadence of local economic and trend reports, as well as proactive campaigns and programs.
  • You will work across internal departments to support and lead consumer product announcements, proactive storylines and thought leadership opportunities that emphasize Yelp’s product innovation.
  • You will develop, pitch and secure accurate and positive coverage for Yelp’s product, engineering and data communications program that consistently hit our key messages.
  • You will leverage data to enhance cross-functional PR campaigns and announcements.
  • You will build and maintain strong relationships with business, tech, economic, trade, and industry press.
  • You will respond to inbound press inquiries on issues related to Yelp’s product, local economies, and data-driven comms; draft messaging and statements, and provide background information to help develop stories with reporters.
  • You will prepare press and communications materials including messaging and talking points, statements, pitches, press releases, blog posts, and presentations.
  • You will prepare, media train, and staff spokespeople for press interviews, as well as speaking engagements.

What it takes to succeed:

  • You have 6+ years experience in communications, with a focus on product and data-driven storytelling; Bachelor’s in communications, journalism or a related field.
  • You are a collaborative team player: you have experience driving projects cross-functionally and working effectively with internal partners and remote colleagues in different departments.
  • You are relationship-driven: you have built strong relationships with reporters, and you’re not afraid to pick up the phone to pitch and get feedback.
  • You are results-driven: you know what outcomes you’re aiming for and how to measure success.
  • You are a storyteller: you know how to build a story with the right ingredients, how to ensure an accurate and positive outcome, and have a track record for landing high-impact features.
  • You are media-savvy: you have experience managing stories with reporters on-the-record, off-the-record and on-background.
  • You are a master of the written word: obsessing about your writing is a point of pride, whether it’s a press release, reactive statement, messaging, pitch, or blog post.
  • You are a self-possessed communicator: you have the ability to use your verbal and presentation skills to effectively and diplomatically advance a position with key stakeholders.
  • You are a proactive problem-solver: you think two steps ahead, anticipate questions and issues before they arise, and take initiative.

What you’ll get:

  • Available your first day: Full medical, vision, and dental (Employee-only plans available at no cost to the employee)
  • 15 days PTO per year for first 2 years of employment (accrual begins on date of hire); number of PTO days increases after 2 years of tenure, 7 paid wellness days, 12 paid holidays, 1 floating holiday
